The C8 was launched in 2002 to replace the Citroën Evasion (badged Synergie in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland), and like its predecessor was developed by the Sevel Nord joint-venture agreement between PSA Peugeot Citroën and Fiat. The Peugeot 807, Fiat Ulysse and Lancia Phedra are badge-engineered versions of the same car.
