From Open Encyclopedia

Clive Selsby Revill (born April 18, 1930 in Wellington, New Zealand) is an experienced character actor who has made more than 50 films and TV movies and whose work has ranged from theatrical blockbusters to stage classics. Among his film roles were two notable films for Billy Wilder, The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes in 1970 and Avanti! in 1972. He also played dour Finlay Perkin in the blockbuster 1978 American miniseries Centennial.

Clive Revill has enjoyed his greatest success on the stage in productions like Oliver! (as Fagin) and the Gilbert and Sullivan Savoy Operas The Pirates of Penzance and The Sorcerer (in which he appeared in the title role of John Wellington Wells). He was twice nominated for Tony Awards for Oliver! and Irma La Douce.

Revill has also performed voice-over work in such films as Transformers: The Movie and The Hobbit. He is one of only a few actors to appear in both an episode of Star Trek and a Star Wars film: he supplied the voice of The Emperor in The Empire Strikes Back and played Sir Guy of Gisburne in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "QPid". His voice in The Empire Strikes Back was replaced with that of Ian McDiarmid for the DVD release.
